Salman Khan evades questions on ‘rape’ remark
Salman Khan concerned that his comments might be twisted and presented as something other than what he meant.
Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma held a press conference for print media on Friday at Panvel’s Surve Farms to celebrate the astounding success of Sultan. Khan spoke at great length about his thoughts on their achievement, but was reticent about answering any questions about the recent controversy over his ‘rape’ remark.
“Should I tell you something and give you media persons something to survive on for the next two weeks?,†Khan said at the press conference, when he was asked about the controversy surround his comments.
“On the other hand, if I don’t say anything I will be boring,†he said.
The Sultan star said he understood that the press must ask questions related to the controversy because of their obligation to their jobs, but expressed concern that his comments might be twisted and presented as something other than what he meant.
Talking about the film, Khan mentioned challenges he would face now, after its completion.
“Before, it was very difficult to gain weight. Now I’m finding it hard to lose it.†He added that training for the wrestling film was very hard, and the next time he would focus on sports such as chess or carrom.
Sultan has hit the Rs 200 crore mark at box office, breaking all previous records in the industry. But Khan, when asked to comment upon the fact that out of the 10 top grossing films in India, only two were from Bollywood, said that the industry needs to work harder. “One thing we do wrong is that we tend to shy away from emotion,†he said.
Khan went on to say that it made him very happy to see people watching Sultan again and again. “My dad, who is my biggest inspiration, loved it. His opinion of my films is very important to me.â€
Khan, who is currently acting in a Marathi comedy series, How Are You, also mentioned that audiences nowadays are shifting from theatres to television and the Internet.
The character of Anushka Sharma, the other lead actor of Sultan, has been termed as “regressive†by several critics. Commenting on this, Sharma said: “She made the choice herself to have the baby. It was the best decision at the time; she was not being regressive.â€
